Winning Bidder

Aakash Minda, the winning bidder, also owns the Thar 3-Door VIN 001, which he secured during Mahindra’s previous auction in 2020.

Delivery Details

Aakash Minda took delivery of the Thar Roxx VIN 001, finished in Nebula Blue, on October 8 in New Delhi. The funds raised from this auction, along with a matching contribution from Mahindra, will be donated to the Naandi Foundation.

Auction Highlights

The auction kicked off on September 15 at 5 PM IST, with a reserve price set at Rs 25 lakhs. Bidding rapidly surpassed the Rs 1 crore mark within the first 24 hours, concluding at 7 PM on September 16.

Vehicle Launch

The Mahindra Thar Roxx, recently launched in India, offers a starting price of Rs 12.99 lakh. This five-door variant of the Thar focuses on daily usability, boasting larger dimensions and added rear space compared to its three-door counterpart. The Roxx is more upscale, featuring advanced technology and modern amenities.

Specifications

The inaugural unit of the Thar Roxx is the top-spec AX7L Diesel Automatic 4×4 variant. Notable features include a panoramic sunroof, Level-2 ADAS, ventilated seats, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. It will also sport a badge signed by Anand Mahindra.

Powertrain Options

Regarding the powertrain, the Thar Roxx is available with both 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options in various tunes. The auctioned vehicle is equipped with a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a 6-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system with low range.

Previous Auction Reference

Nearly four years ago, Mahindra hosted a similar auction featuring the first unit of the Thar 3-Door, which sold for Rs 1.11 crore. Coincidentally, the winning bid was also made by Aakash Minda. Proceeds from that auction, along with Mahindra’s matching donation, supported COVID-19 relief efforts.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the auction of the first Mahindra Thar Roxx (VIN No: 001) for an impressive Rs 1.31 crore not only marks a significant milestone for Mahindra but also highlights the brand’s commitment to innovation and community support, with proceeds benefiting the Naandi Foundation. Aakash Minda’s continued investment in Mahindra’s offerings reflects the growing popularity of the Thar series, particularly the new five-door variant, which emphasizes modern technology, spaciousness, and everyday usability. With its powerful performance and premium features, the Thar Roxx is set to make waves in the off-roading community, further enhancing Mahindra’s legacy in the automotive landscape.
