Triumph has introduced its latest Speed Twin 1200 lineup, with the base model priced at Rs 12.75 lakh, while the premium RS variant is available for Rs 15.50 lakh. Both versions share the same engine, design, and most features, with the primary differences lying in the hardware and cycle parts.

Engine & Performance

Both Speed Twin 1200 models are powered by a liquid-cooled, 1,200cc parallel-twin engine, now enhanced with a new camshaft, sportier tuning, and a higher 8,000 rpm redline. The motor delivers 105hp at 7,750rpm and 112Nm at 4,250rpm, reflecting a 5hp increase and a revised powerband similar to the former Thruxton.

Transmission & Quickshifter

The six-speed gearbox comes with a slip-and-assist clutch as standard. However, the RS model is equipped with a bidirectional quickshifter, making it the first Triumph neo-retro bike to feature this technology. This unit cannot be fitted to the base Speed Twin 1200 due to differences in footpeg positioning.

Instrumentation & Technology

Both models now feature an updated instrument cluster, replacing the twin digi-analogue dials with an LCD/TFT display borrowed from the Trident 660. This setup is becoming standard across Triumph’s lineup, including the recently launched Speed Twin 900. Additionally, a USB-C charging port is provided as standard.

Ergonomics & Riding Comfort

The base Speed Twin 1200 is designed with a more relaxed riding posture, while the RS variant offers a sportier stance with lower handlebars and rearset footpegs. The RS is the more performance-focused version, boasting premium suspension and braking components.

Chassis & Cycle Parts

The higher-spec RS comes equipped with a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork, Ohlins rear shocks, and Brembo Stylema calipers with 320mm discs. It also rides on Metzeler Racetec RR tyres, ensuring superior grip and handling.

In contrast, the standard Speed Twin 1200 features a non-adjustable 43mm Marzocchi fork and twin shock absorbers, along with Triumph-branded radial 4-piston calipers and Metzeler M9RR rubber.

Color Options & Customization

Triumph offers the base Speed Twin 1200 in three colors: white, red, and silver. The RS variant, on the other hand, is available in black and orange. As expected from Triumph, a wide range of factory-supplied accessories is available, including clip-on handlebars and a solo seat for a classic café racer aesthetic.

Price Comparison & Competition

The new Speed Twin 1200 sees a price increase, with the base model costing Rs 1.66 lakh more than the outgoing version (Rs 11.09 lakh). Meanwhile, the RS variant at Rs 15.50 lakh is positioned alongside the Ducati Monster SP. These models compete with the BMW R12 nineT, which is a premium alternative at Rs 20.90 lakh.

Conclusion

The 2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 lineup brings notable upgrades in performance, technology, and hardware, with the base model priced at Rs 12.75 lakh and the higher-spec RS at Rs 15.50 lakh. While both variants share the same 1,200cc parallel-twin engine, the RS stands out with premium cycle parts, including Brembo brakes, Ohlins suspension, and a quickshifter. Triumph has also modernized the bike with a new LCD/TFT instrument cluster, ergonomic refinements, and a fresh color palette. Although the new models come at a significant price hike, they remain competitive against rivals like the Ducati Monster SP and BMW R12 nineT, offering a balance of neo-retro charm and modern performance.
