BMW Motorrad has officially revealed the BMW R 1300 R, its latest roadster offering, set to replace the R 1250 R. Unveiled globally, the R 1300 R is expected to launch in India in the coming months, likely priced below the R 1300 GS, which starts at ₹21.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Engine & Performance
At the heart of the BMW R 1300 R is the same 1,300cc boxer engine found in the R 1300 GS. It produces an impressive 145hp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and bi-directional quickshifter as standard. Power is delivered via a shaft final drive, ensuring strong low-end torque and smooth cruising.
Chassis & Suspension
Built on the main frame of the R 1300 GS, the R 1300 R features a new subframe. It sports a USD fork at the front and a paralever EVO rear suspension, both offering preload and damping adjustability. A standout feature is the adjustable spring rate in the front fork, a world-first in series production motorcycles. An electronic suspension system is available as an optional upgrade.
Brakes, Wheels & Dimensions
Braking is managed by twin front discs with 4-piston radial calipers and a single rear disc. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, giving it classic roadster proportions. It tips the scales at 239kg, the same as its predecessor, and is just 2kg heavier than the GS despite carrying less fuel (17L vs. GS’s 19L). The seat height stands at 785mm, making it accessible for most riders.

Electronics & Features
The R 1300 R is loaded with tech, including traction control, engine braking control, and active cruise control with forward collision warning. It comes standard with three riding modes – Eco, Rain, and Road, while Dynamic and Dynamic Pro can be unlocked via the optional Riding Package Pro. The roadster is offered in four colour variants, each giving the bike a distinct visual appeal.
