Kia has taken the wraps off the Carens Clavis, a more upmarket and feature-rich version of its popular Carens MPV. Slated to go on sale soon, bookings for the Clavis will open at 12:01am on May 9 via Kia’s official website and dealerships. With updated styling, added features, and improved safety equipment, the Clavis is set to make a strong statement in the premium MPV segment.

Kia Carens: New Design Language Inspired by Kia’s Flagships

The Carens Clavis borrows from Kia’s newer models like the EV9, featuring the brand’s latest ‘digital tiger face’ grille, sleek LED DRLs, and a more sculpted bumper design. Silver bash plates and 17-inch dual-tone alloys add to its premium appeal, while the rear features a familiar profile with a thicker central LED light band.

Kia will offer the Clavis in eight colour options, including Imperial Blue, Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, and Glacier White Pearl.

Interior Gets a Modern Touch

While the overall layout remains similar to the Carens, the Clavis gets lighter upholstery, new door trims, and the biggest highlight — a 22.62-inch dual-screen setup. This includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system, mirroring the tech seen in the Seltos.

Also featured are new AC vents, updated Auto AC controls, and a flat-bottom steering wheel borrowed from the Syros.

Feature-Rich and Safer than Before

In its top-spec HTX+ trim, the Carens Clavis boasts:

  • 4-way powered driver’s seat
  • Ventilated front seats
  • 8-speaker Bose sound system
  • Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • Connected car features
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 360-degree camera

It also debuts Level 2 ADAS in the lineup, offering adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and more — a significant step up in safety.

More Powertrain Options, Including Turbo Manual

The Clavis introduces a new 160hp, 1.5L turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, in addition to existing Carens engine options. Other available powertrains include:

  • 115hp, 1.5L petrol with 6-speed manual
  • 160hp, 1.5L turbo-petrol with 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT
  • 116hp, 1.5L diesel with manual or automatic gearbox

In total, buyers can choose from six powertrain options and seven variants (HTE to HTX+).

Expected Price and Market Positioning

Given the upgrades, the Kia Carens Clavis is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current Carens (₹10.60 – ₹19.70 lakh). With no direct competitors offering a similar blend of size, premium features, and tech, the Clavis is uniquely positioned between budget MPVs like the Maruti Ertiga/XL6 and more expensive models like the Toyota Innova Crysta/Hycross.

Conclusion: A Strong Contender in the Premium MPV Segment

With the Carens Clavis, Kia has added a stylish and tech-loaded option to its MPV lineup, appealing to families seeking comfort, safety, and modern design. Whether it’s the panoramic sunroof, ADAS safety suite, or multiple engine choices, the Clavis appears ready to redefine expectations in its segment. If you’re looking for a practical MPV with a premium edge, this might just be your next ride.
