As part of its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality, Toyota is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with new models, including the Innova BEV. The 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) served as the stage for the unveiling of the Kijang Innova BEV Concept. This latest iteration features several updates compared to the concept version first showcased in Indonesia in March 2022. Let’s explore the details of this fully-electric MPV.

Styling and Exterior Features

The Toyota Innova BEV Concept retains the overall design and structure of the diesel-powered Kijang Innova available in Indonesia. However, distinct design enhancements set it apart, such as sportier LED headlamps with DRLs, a closed-off grille, a top-mounted LED strip, and a redesigned bumper. Its bold road presence is further emphasized by body cladding, blacked-out pillars, and a contrasting roof. The side profile features stylish multi-color graphics, while the MPV rides on sporty 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/65 tires. Additional highlights include chrome-finished conventional door handles and dual-tone ORVMs with integrated turn signals. At the rear, the vehicle sports wraparound tail lamps with an interconnecting LED strip, along with ‘BEV’ badging placed on the tailgate and sides.

Interior and Comfort Features

Inside, the Innova BEV Concept boasts a spacious and well-appointed cabin designed for both comfort and functionality. Unlike many modern EVs, Toyota has retained physical buttons for ease of use. The MPV comes equipped with a large touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by an analogue instrument cluster with a MID. The leather-wrapped steering wheel features mounted controls for convenience. Premium features such as ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, and a dual-tone interior theme enhance the cabin experience. The middle row is fitted with comfortable captain seats, and second-row passengers benefit from dedicated rear-seat entertainment screens and multiple utility storage spaces.

Battery, Performance, and Charging

The 7-seater Toyota Innova BEV Concept is powered by a 59.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Unlike most modern EVs that use a flat, floor-mounted battery, the Innova BEV employs a unique setup with multiple smaller modules placed on the floorboard and a larger unit positioned in the front engine bay. Additionally, the charger and inverter are installed at the rear. The vehicle supports Type-2 AC and CCS-2 DC charging standards. However, Toyota has yet to reveal specifics such as driving range and charging time. The timeline for mass production remains uncertain, and there is no confirmation on whether the Innova BEV will launch in India.

Toyota’s Future Plans and Market Positioning

Toyota continues to focus on a diverse range of sustainable mobility solutions, including ICE-powered vehicles, hybrids, biofuels, and hydrogen-powered models. In India, the Toyota Innova lineup currently includes the petrol-powered Hycross, the strong-hybrid variant, and the diesel-powered Crysta. The Innova remains one of Toyota’s best-selling models, contributing approximately 24% to the brand’s total sales.

Conclusion

With the unveiling of the Kijang Innova BEV Concept at IIMS 2025, Toyota has reaffirmed its commitment to electrification. Featuring an updated design, premium interiors, and an innovative battery placement, this fully-electric MPV showcases Toyota’s evolving EV technology. However, details regarding its official launch, market availability, and technical specifications remain undisclosed. As Toyota explores multiple pathways to sustainability, the Innova BEV Concept stands as a promising glimpse into the brand’s future in electric mobility.
