BMW has announced that it has crossed the 5,000 electric vehicle (EV) sales milestone in India, marking a significant achievement for the German luxury automaker. The company entered the Indian luxury EV market in November 2021 with the BMW iX, and currently offers six EV models across its portfolio.
BMW India: 4,000 km Charging Corridor Launched
To further strengthen its EV ecosystem, BMW has inaugurated a 4,000 km-long power charging corridor that stretches from Jammu to Madurai. The corridor covers key national highways and cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hubbali, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Madurai.
Chargers have been strategically installed at 300 km intervals, making long-distance EV travel more convenient. These stations feature fast chargers with capacities ranging from 120 kW up to 720 kW, ensuring compatibility for different EV models. Importantly, the charging infrastructure will be accessible to all EV users, not just BMW owners.
Latest EV Launch: BMW iX1 LWB
BMW’s most recent EV launch in India was the BMW iX1 Long-Wheelbase (LWB) at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Priced at ₹49 lakh, the EV is powered by a 66.4 kWh battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 201 bhp and 250 Nm. It offers an impressive range of up to 531 km, making it one of the most practical luxury EVs in the market.
Price Hike Announcement
BMW India has also confirmed a 3% price hike across its lineup effective September 1, 2025. This will be the third price increase in 2025, following hikes in January and April. The company attributes the revision to rising global supply chain costs, foreign exchange pressures, and increased logistics expenses.
Conclusion
With the launch of its 4,000 km charging corridor and achieving 5,000 EV sales in India, BMW has cemented its position as a pioneer in the luxury EV space. The company’s growing EV portfolio, coupled with its expanding charging infrastructure, is set to make electric mobility more accessible and practical for Indian consumers.
