BMW R 1300 R Roadster Launched With Powerful 143 bhp Boxer Engine

BMW Motorrad has taken the wraps off its latest roadster — the BMW R 1300 R, marking the second motorcycle built on its new 1300 platform after the adventure-ready R 1300 GS. Replacing the R 1250 R, this new iteration blends performance, styling, and cutting-edge electronics into a sportier street machine.

Powertrain: Boxer Punch with Advanced Shifting

At the heart of the R 1300 R lies the same 1,300 cc boxer-twin engine from the R 1300 GS. It pumps out a massive 143 bhp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, ensuring thrilling performance on every twist of the throttle.

The six-speed gearbox, now mounted beneath the engine, can be optionally equipped with BMW’s Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) – a system that fully automates clutch and gear shifts, adding convenience for daily and spirited riding alike.

Design: Edgy, Muscular and Road-Ready

The R 1300 R sees a radical design overhaul compared to its predecessor. A more angular headlight with integrated DRLs, a sculpted fuel tank, pronounced radiator shrouds, and sharper engine covers make this roadster look every bit aggressive and muscular. At the rear, fewer body panels and an all-new tail lamp lend a minimal yet bold aesthetic.

The motorcycle gets a 6.5-inch TFT display

Ergonomics: More Sportbike Than Roadster

The riding posture of the R 1300 R is now more committed thanks to rear-set foot pegs and a flatter handlebar, shifting the rider into a forward-leaning stance. With a base seat height of just 785 mm, it remains accessible, while optional seats can adjust this height to suit different riders.

Technology & Electronics: Smart Riding Aids

The R 1300 R is packed with modern rider aids, including:

  • Three standard ride modes – Rain, Road, and Eco
  • Traction Control
  • Engine Drag Torque Control
  • 6.5-inch TFT display

Optional features include BMW’s Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, and two additional ride modes – Dynamic and Dynamic Pro – for riders seeking an extra dose of performance.

The motorcycle gets a 47 mm USD fork and a rear monoshock

Chassis & Suspension: Lighter and More Adaptive

Suspension duties are handled by a 47 mm USD front fork with 140 mm travel, and a rear monoshock using BMW’s Evo Paralever with 130 mm of travel. The bike can also be specced with Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), which electronically fine-tunes damping and spring rate based on road conditions.

Braking is top-notch with 310 mm dual front discs and a 285 mm rear disc, backed by BMW Integral ABS Pro. The new 17-inch wheels are 1.4 kg lighter, contributing to better handling and agility.

Conclusion: BMW R 1300 R

The BMW R 1300 R redefines what a modern roadster should be — powerful, sharp-looking, tech-loaded, and rider-focused. With performance derived from its GS sibling, sportier ergonomics, and a host of high-end features, it is tailored for riders who crave both performance and sophistication on the road. Whether you’re carving canyons or cruising cityscapes, the R 1300 R stands ready.
