Ola Electric is fast-tracking the launch of its much-anticipated Gen 3 platform scooters, now expected to hit the market by January 2025, earlier than the previously slated timeline of mid-March to April 2025. With the introduction of innovative features and new models under the S2 and S3 sub-brands, Ola aims to expand its foothold in both mass and premium segments of the electric two-wheeler market.

All About Ola Electric’s Gen 3 Platform Scooters

Gen 3 Platform: New Innovations for Enhanced Performance

The Gen 3 platform marks a significant upgrade for Ola Electric, featuring cutting-edge advancements aimed at boosting efficiency and user experience. Key highlights of the new platform include:

  • Integrated Battery System: The Gen 3 scooters use the battery as a structural component, reducing weight and increasing vehicle stability.
  • Magnetless Motor: Ola is pioneering the use of magnetless motors, replacing permanent magnets with magnetized electrical coils, promising increased torque and efficiency.
  • Advanced Electronics: The chassis now houses integrated electronics, leading to a 26% improvement in overall performance and over 20% reduction in production costs.

New S2 and S3 Models: Expanding the Lineup

Ola Electric is launching five additional scooter models under the new S2 and S3 sub-brands, catering to a broader range of customers:

  1. S2 Models:
    • City: Designed for daily urban commutes, offering practicality and ease of use.
    • Tourer: Geared for longer rides, featuring extended battery life and enhanced comfort.
    • Sports: Tailored for performance enthusiasts, with higher top speeds and dynamic handling.
  2. S3 Models:
    • Grand Adventure: A premium maxi-scooter focused on luxury and powerful performance.
    • Grand Tourer: Aimed at long-distance riders, combining comfort with top-tier features.

Improved Production and Vertical Integration

Ola’s Gen 3 platform incorporates 4,860 lithium-ion cells manufactured at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu. The vertical integration strategy is designed to enhance scalability and streamline production. This approach also helps in reducing dependency on external suppliers, enabling cost-efficiency and better quality control.

Expanding Market Reach and Service Capabilities

As of Q2 FY25, Ola Electric holds approximately 30% of the electric two-wheeler market share in India. The company aims to increase its distribution network from 782 outlets to 2,000 by March 2025. In addition to scooters, Ola is preparing to launch its Roadster series of electric motorcycles, with deliveries set for Q4 FY2025.

To address previous capacity issues at service centers, Ola has introduced the ‘Network Partner Programme,’ boasting over 1,000 partners to date. The programme has successfully reduced service wait times, handling 80% of requests within a single day. Ola plans to expand this network to 10,000 partners by the end of 2025, ensuring improved customer service and faster delivery times.

Ola’s Roadmap for Growth: New Products and Enhanced Services

Ola Electric is committed to innovation and growth, with plans to release 20 new products by the end of 2025. The company aims to introduce at least one new product every quarter, signaling a consistent push towards increasing electric vehicle adoption in India.

Conclusion

With its Gen 3 platform, Ola Electric is set to revolutionize the electric two-wheeler market, offering a versatile lineup catering to both everyday commuters and premium segment buyers. By leveraging vertical integration, innovative motor technology, and an expanded network, Ola aims to enhance user experience while making electric mobility more accessible across India.
