Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer River has announced a significant milestone: it has rolled out the 10,000th unit of its Indie electric scooter from its Hoskote facility in Karnataka. Impressively, this milestone was achieved in less than two years since production began, underscoring the rising demand for practical, work-focused electric scooters in India.

River Indie- Quick Timeline: From Launch to Milestone

  • Launch: Indie was unveiled in February 2023.
  • Production Start: First unit rolled out on August 25, 2023.
  • 10,000th Unit: Crossed on June 30, 2025 — in just under two years.

River’s 120,000 sq. ft. Hoskote plant is equipped with automated lines for vehicle and battery pack assembly, supporting a production capacity of up to 1 lakh units annually.

Key Features of the River Indie

In November 2024, River updated the Indie, switching from a belt-drive system to a more robust chain-drive with a single-speed gearbox, enhancing durability while retaining the powerful 9 bhp synchronous permanent magnet motor delivering 26 Nm torque.

Performance Highlights:

  • Ride Modes: Eco, Ride, and Rush
  • Acceleration: 0-40 km/h in 3.7 seconds (Rush mode)
  • Top Speed: 90 km/h

The Indie’s practical design, combined with strong performance, makes it a standout choice for urban commutes and last-mile delivery tasks.

Retail Expansion Across India

River has been steadily expanding its retail network, currently operating 27 stores in 15 cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysuru, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam. The company aims to establish at least one outlet in every major Indian city by September 2025, broadening access to its electric scooters nationwide.

Competitive Pricing and Rivals

The River Indie is priced at Rs 1.44 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a strong competitor to established electric scooters like the Bajaj Chetak, Ather Rizta, and TVS iQube.

Looking Ahead

River’s rapid production growth, strong retail expansion, and focus on practical, high-performance electric scooters signal a promising future. With India’s EV adoption accelerating, milestones like this mark important steps toward sustainable urban mobility.
