Nissan has taken a major leap forward with the global debut of the sixth-generation Micra — now reimagined as a pure-electric vehicle. The all-new Nissan Micra EV has been unveiled with fresh SUV-inspired styling, new-age tech, and impressive range figures, aiming to appeal to the modern-day EV buyer. This marks a new chapter in the Micra’s journey, especially for fans in India who fondly remember the original petrol-powered Micra.
Micra EV: A Bold New Look
Gone is the cherubic and rounded design of earlier Micra generations. The new Micra EV, designed at Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in London, takes on a more upright, crossover-like stance. Sharp LED DRLs surround the main headlamp housings, while at the rear, sleek circular LED tail-lamps echo the front lighting elements. The car’s dimensions remain compact — under four metres in length, less than 1.8 metres in width, with a 2.54-metre wheelbase.

Built on the Alliance AmpR Platform
The Micra EV shares its underpinnings with the recently revealed Renault 5 EV, being built on the AmpR platform from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. This makes it a close mechanical cousin of the Renault 5. It rides on stylish 18-inch alloy wheels and maintains a low profile to stay within the sub-four-metre segment in Europe.
High-Tech and Spacious Interiors
Inside the cabin, the Micra EV features a twin 10.1-inch display setup — one for infotainment and the other as a digital driver’s display. Boot space is a practical 326 litres, making it suitable for everyday use. Premium materials and minimalist styling define the interior, showcasing Nissan’s effort to elevate the Micra into a tech-savvy EV.

Two Battery Options: 40 kWh and 52 kWh
The Micra EV will be available with two battery pack options:
- 40 kWh Standard Range
- 121 bhp, 225 Nm motor
- Real-world range: up to 308 KM
- DC fast-charging: up to 80 kW
- 52 kWh Long Range
- 148 bhp, 245 Nm motor
- Real-world range: up to 408 KM
- DC fast-charging: up to 100 kW
- 0-80% charge in just 30 minutes

Lightweight Build and Smart Features
Nissan has focused on lightweight construction, with the standard range variant tipping the scales at 1,400 kg, while the long-range version weighs 1,524 kg. Both versions feature a heat pump, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, and Nissan’s ProPilot ADAS suite — adding a layer of intelligence and safety to daily driving.
Conclusion: The Micra EV Marks a Confident Step Into the Future
With its modern design, competitive range, and a host of smart features, the Nissan Micra EV represents a bold reinvention of an iconic nameplate. While it’s currently confirmed only for Europe, its compact size and performance figures make it a promising candidate for future markets — perhaps even India, where electric mobility is rapidly evolving. The sixth-gen Micra proves that even small hatchbacks can think big when it comes to the electric future.
