Bentley has announced its first all-electric model, a “Luxury Urban SUV,” set to debut in 2026, with availability expected in 2027. This will mark the company’s entry into the electric vehicle market, blending luxury with sustainability in a new SUV format.

Postponed Full Electrification: New Target Set for 2035

In line with its updated Beyond100+ strategy, Bentley has delayed its plans to go fully electric. The brand now aims to produce a 100% electric lineup by 2035. Until then, they will continue offering plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) until the mid-2030s, adapting to market demands.

Current Bentley Models and Transition Plans

The current Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur models are available in V8 PHEV versions, following the phase-out of the W12 engine. Bentley plans to release at least one new PHEV or BEV model annually over the next decade, with the electric SUV leading this transition.

Design and Features of the Upcoming Electric SUV

A teaser image of the upcoming electric SUV reveals a silhouette reminiscent of the Bentayga but with a more compact design, featuring a sleeker roofline and contoured fenders. The SUV will be manufactured at Bentley’s Crewe headquarters, and CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser has confirmed it will be more compact than its predecessor.

Performance and Technical Details

While Bentley is keeping specific technical details under wraps, they assure that the first electric SUV will offer an impressive range and rapid charging speeds. The company is also introducing a unique sound design for the electric SUV, ensuring it stands out from other electric vehicles on the market.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Bentley’s shift towards electrification is gaining momentum, with the debut of its first electric SUV in 2026 marking a major milestone for the luxury brand. While the full transition to an all-electric lineup is now set for 2035, Bentley’s continued focus on PHEVs in the meantime ensures a smooth transition. With a sleek, compact new SUV design, impressive performance features, and innovative approaches to electric vehicle sound, Bentley is poised to redefine luxury electric driving, staying true to its legacy while embracing a sustainable future.
