Following the massive buzz around last year’s Skytop Concept, BMW has once again made a bold statement at the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. This year, the spotlight is on the BMW Concept Speedtop—a long-roofed, coupe-style shooting brake based on the M8 platform. While it has been greenlit for production, getting your hands on one—especially if you’re in the U.S.—won’t be easy.

Design:Performance:Interior:Production & Availability:Final Thoughts:Conclusion

Design:

In the wake of the M5 Touring’s reveal last year, BMW seems to be doubling down on wagons with a twist. The Concept Speedtop is a true two-door shooting brake, evoking memories of the cult-favorite Z3/M Coupe—fondly nicknamed the “Clownshoe.”
Though the Speedtop is more traditionally proportioned, its sloping rear roofline bears a resemblance to the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. At the front, the car borrows sleek elements from the Skytop concept—an aesthetic step-up from current BMW production models. The two-tone roof and 14-spoke wheels add striking detail to an already bold design.

Performance:

Built on the potent M8 architecture, the Speedtop houses the most powerful V8 engine BMW currently offers. This likely refers to the 617-hp, 553 lb-ft twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 found in the M8 Competition. The car is expected to feature BMW’s 8-speed automatic transmission, prioritizing both performance and luxury.

Interior:

Step inside, and you’ll find a cabin that feels anything but ordinary. The interior showcases a two-tone theme, accented with premium materials rarely seen in standard BMWs. A unique highlight is the LED light bar tracing the shape of the ceiling—an elegant design touch reminiscent of the Bugatti Chiron. It’s clearly crafted for both visual impact and luxury.

Production & Availability:

BMW has confirmed the Concept Speedtop will enter production, but it’s set to be ultra-exclusive. Only 70 units will be built, with none designated for the American market. Pricing details remain under wraps, but given the rarity and craftsmanship, it’s clear this one’s for the elite.

Final Thoughts:

With the Concept Speedtop, BMW continues to push the boundaries of performance and design. It’s a car that commands attention even at a standstill, offering a stylish evolution for the Touring lineup. While most enthusiasts won’t get to park this one in their garage, it signals an exciting design direction that could trickle down into future BMWs.

Conclusion

The BMW Concept Speedtop is more than just a design study—it’s a bold statement of intent. Blending the raw power of the M8 with the elegance of a shooting brake silhouette, it showcases BMW’s ability to push boundaries while nodding to its design heritage. From its striking exterior and luxurious interior to its limited production run, the Speedtop is a collector’s dream and a glimpse into the future of BMW’s Touring lineup. Though most enthusiasts won’t ever own one, its impact will be felt across the brand’s design language for years to come.
