Mitsubishi has officially revealed the DST seven-seat SUV concept at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS 2024). This new model previews a larger version of the popular Mitsubishi Xforce SUV, expanding the brand’s offerings in the competitive seven-seat market.

Mitsubishi Reveals DST Seven-Seat SUV

A Closer Look at the DST Concept

The DST concept is designed to cater primarily to markets where the Xforce has gained popularity, particularly in Indonesia and other ASEAN nations. With a three-row layout, it aims to provide families with more space and versatility. The DST will directly compete with models like the Hyundai Alcazar, which is not available in these markets.

Design and Features

At first glance, the DST concept shares a lot of design cues with the Xforce. It features a longer wheelbase and a more extended bodyshell to accommodate an additional row of seats. The SUV is equipped with large alloy wheels and a generous amount of body cladding, enhancing its rugged SUV appearance.

Inside, the DST boasts a modern interior with multiple color shades and soft-touch materials. It includes an all-new two-spoke steering wheel and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, alongside an 8-inch digital instrument cluster—though some of the controls may be too conceptual and will likely be updated for the production model.

Expected Performance

While Mitsubishi has not disclosed detailed powertrain specifications, it is anticipated that the production version of the DST will feature the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine found in the Xforce. The SUV will likely come standard with a CVT automatic transmission and offer four drive modes: Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud, making it versatile for various terrains.

Future of the Mitsubishi DST in India

Currently, there are no announcements regarding the Mitsubishi DST’s potential introduction to the Indian market. Mitsubishi remains focused on emerging markets such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. However, with the brand now part of the Renault-Nissan alliance, there’s speculation about future models that could appeal to Indian consumers.

Conclusion

The Mitsubishi DST seven-seat SUV concept is an exciting development for the brand and promises to offer a compelling option for families in ASEAN markets. As it gears up for production next year, it will be interesting to see how it positions itself against competitors and whether it will make its way to India in the future.
