Design Highlights

The exterior design of the next-gen T-Roc has been leaked ahead of its global launch. While the SUV retains the overall silhouette of its predecessor, it adopts modern design cues like a large grille with hexagonal cutouts, slimmer headlights connected by a sleek LED light bar, and a redefined rear with new tail-lights joined by a light strip. The larger C-pillar and sloping roofline enhance its sporty appeal.

Platform and Features

The new T-Roc is built on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform, also shared with the latest Golf. The SUV is expected to feature a longer front and rear overhang, giving it a more streamlined appearance. Key design elements, including prominent creases and body-color detailing on the grille, add a sophisticated touch.

Positioning and Competitors

Positioned between the T-Cross and Tiguan in Volkswagen’s global line-up, the T-Roc competes with SUVs like the Toyota C-HR and Hyundai Kona. Last year, it emerged as Volkswagen’s second-best-selling model worldwide, showcasing its importance in the brand’s portfolio.

Powertrain Options

Details about the powertrains for the new T-Roc remain unclear. However, it is expected to offer multiple turbo-petrol engine options and possibly a diesel variant, depending on regional demand. The powertrain lineup may mirror that of the latest Golf, ensuring a range of efficient and powerful engines.

India-Specific Plans

In India, the first-gen T-Roc was sold in limited numbers as a completely built unit (CBU). While there is no confirmation regarding the second-gen T-Roc’s launch in India, Volkswagen is focusing on introducing the Tayron SUV and a compact SUV based on the Skoda Kushaq platform for the Indian market.

Conclusion

The second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc brings a refined yet familiar design, incorporating modern styling cues and advanced features while retaining its iconic SUV shape. Built on the versatile MQB Evo platform, it offers a promising blend of style and practicality, making it a significant player in Volkswagen’s global SUV lineup. With a competitive edge against rivals like the Toyota C-HR and Hyundai Kona, the new T-Roc is set to maintain its strong global presence. While its India launch remains uncertain, Volkswagen’s focus on expanding its SUV portfolio in the market keeps anticipation high for Indian buyers.
