The Indian automotive industry is gearing up for an exciting August, with at least eight new car launches in India this August 2024. The new arrivals will cover a variety of segments, including three all-new coupe-styled SUVs, a 5-door derivative of an existing model, as well as both mass-market and luxury offerings. Here’s a closer look at the vehicles going on sale in India in August 2024.

New Car Launches in India in August 2024

1. Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan X-Trail is set to launch on August 1. Nissan India recently opened bookings for this model, with deliveries expected to begin later in the month. With the introduction of the X-Trail, Nissan India will finally expand its lineup, which has only included the Magnite subcompact SUV for the past year.

The X-Trail features a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, delivering 160 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, and is paired with a CVT. It is expected to be priced between Rs 40-45 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete with models like the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.

2. Citroen Basalt

Next up is the Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV, making its global debut on August 2, with prices to be revealed shortly afterward. Based on the C3 Aircross SUV, the Basalt is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and will offer both manual and automatic transmission options. This model will enter the highly competitive compact SUV segment, competing with the upcoming Tata Curvv. However, the Basalt is expected to come with a more competitive price tag than other offerings in the segment.

3. Tata Curvv

Tata Motors is set to unveil the Curvv coupe-SUV on August 7, marking the company’s entry into the compact SUV segment. The Curvv is expected to offer a choice between a 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. This new model will compete against the Citroen Basalt and challenge the segment leader, the Hyundai Creta. Positioned between the Nexon and Harrier in Tata’s lineup, the Curvv aims to capture a share of the competitive compact SUV market.

4. Tata Curvv EV

Alongside the Curvv ICE, Tata will also introduce the Curvv EV on August 7. This all-electric version will be Tata’s second model built on the ‘Acti.ev’ architecture, following the Punch EV. The Curvv EV is expected to have a battery pack with a capacity of around 50-60 kWh, offering a range of over 500 kilometers. It will likely come with both single- and dual-motor powertrain options. Upon its launch, the Curvv EV will be Tata’s most expensive electric vehicle until the Harrier EV makes its debut.

5. Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet

On August 8, Mercedes-Benz will launch the CLE Cabriolet in India. This model replaces the C-Class and E-Class cabriolets globally. Internationally, the CLE Cabriolet is available with a variety of four-cylinder and six-cylinder powertrain options, but it’s yet to be confirmed which engine options will be available for the India-spec model. The CLE Cabriolet is expected to have a starting price of over Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale in India.

6. Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Coupe is also set to launch on August 8. Unveiled last September, this model is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 415 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, supplemented by an additional 12.8 bhp from its mild hybrid system. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds and boasts a top speed of 250 kmph. Pricing is expected to start at over Rs 1 crore.

7. Lamborghini Urus SE

On August 9, Lamborghini will unveil the new Urus SE plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in India. The Urus SE, the most powerful variant of Lamborghini’s performance SUV, features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine paired with an electric motor, generating a combined 789 bhp and 950 Nm of torque. It offers an electric-only range of 60 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds. As the top-tier model, the Urus SE will be priced higher than the current Urus lineup.

Conclusion

August 2024 is shaping up to be a thrilling month for the Indian automotive market, with a range of exciting new car launches set to debut. From the versatile Nissan X-Trail and the stylish Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV to Tata Motors’ groundbreaking Curvv ICE and Curvv EV, and the high-performance Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet and AMG GLC 43 Coupe, the month promises a diverse array of options for enthusiasts. Adding to the excitement, Lamborghini will introduce the Urus SE plug-in hybrid, the most powerful iteration of their performance SUV. With such a varied lineup, August is poised to be a landmark month for car buyers and automotive aficionados alike.
