Key Highlights

  • Launch Date: Recently launched in South Africa.
  • Export Count: 996 units dispatched.
  • Model Comparison: Similar to the India-spec model with slight feature differences.

Pricing Comparison: India vs. South Africa

The pricing of the Hyundai Exter in South Africa ranges from R 269,900 to R 334,900 (approximately INR 12.97 lakh to 16.09 lakh). In contrast, the India pricing starts at around Rs 6 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.43 lakh. The South African market experiences a significant markup compared to India.

Design and Aesthetics of Hyundai Exter

The South African version of the Hyundai Exter maintains the same striking design elements as its Indian counterpart. Key features include:

  • H-shaped LED DRLs and headlights positioned lower down.
  • 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
  • Rugged body cladding.
  • Unique color options with names like Atlas White, Cosmic Blue, and Fiery Red.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Hyundai Exter doesn’t compromise on comfort or functionality. Notable interior features include:

  • An 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • A single-pane sunroof.
  • Steering-mounted audio controls.
  • Six airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

The dashboard design remains intuitive, ensuring that all controls are easily accessible.

Performance and Powertrain

Under the hood, the South African Hyundai Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 83 PS and 114 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT transmission. Unlike the Indian model, the South African Exter does not offer a CNG variant.

Competition in the Indian Market

In India, the Hyundai Exter competes with models like the Tata Punch, Maruti Ignis, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger, making it a robust contender in the micro-SUV segment.

Conclusion: Hyundai Exter in South Africa

The launch of the Hyundai Exter in South Africa marks a significant milestone for Hyundai’s export strategy and highlights the global demand for well-designed, feature-rich vehicles made in India. With its competitive pricing and features, the Exter is poised to attract many customers in the South African market.
